Type of service:
Schools And Education Providers
The AAC service is based at Greenfields Specialist School for Communication and is funded by Northamptonshire County Council for High Tech communication aids.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to strategies and techniques used by individuals who experience difficulties with communication because they have little or no speech.
In addition to supporting expressive communication, AAC can also support and encourage the development of language and natural speech. AAC does not prevent a child from speaking.
In fact, there are a small number of studies which report that AAC may actually encourage speech.
Should other schools wish to see AAC in action please contact the AAC Coordinator at GSSC to arrange a visit.
This service is available to all Northamptonshire pupils from pre-school until year 13. The only financial implication is a request that families/schools ensure adequate insurance of High Tech devices and a commitment from families /schools to support the child with this intervention.
