C O P A Special School,
The City of Peterborough Special School provides 4-18 education for up to 50 pupils from Reception to Year 7 in the first year, moving to full capacity of 90 pupils by 2018. We will specialise in the education of pupils who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs, linked to their diagnosis of Autism, in particular high functioning Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
The Special School opened in September 2012 in existing buildings on the old Hereward School site in Peterborough.
The prime focus of the Special School is to maximise the achievements of pupils which are acknowledged at secondary age by a wide range of external accreditation providers. This aspiration for achievement is matched by an equal focus on ensuring that pupils are well prepared to get the best out of life outside school and this means supporting the development of their primary needs in terms of social communication skills and confidence. We see parents as crucial partners in their children’s education.
