Ashley House is a new residential home in quiet, residential area of Northampton, very near the town centre. It has facilities for 8 service users aged 18-45 years old whose complex needs centre around Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, and associated mental health issues. It is very likely that service users will present behaviours that are challenging in social settings, or to their primary carers. However, Ashley House aims to make it possible for individuals to exercise choice, control, and self-determination by recognising their strengths and using them to enhance their self esteem and self- confidence.
Amongst the aims of Ashley House will be to encourage and facilitate individual participation in learning, and in the development of Life Skills which will offer greater opportunities for independence. Ultimately, each service user will have the opportunity to chose to live a more independent lifestyle, and Ashley House will facilitate and support this as part of an ongoing plan.
Personal Care Planning will be central to the individualised support offered, taking full account of what is important to the person at all times. At Ashley House, we will strive to ensure that the individual is at the centre of their own planning, and that they are fully consulted. Others within the individual's Circle of Support will play an important role in contributing to the person centred planning, particularly where issues of communication and mental capacity have an effect on the person's ability to make their wishes known.
A “home from home” environment will create a sense of warmth, stability, and safety, where individuals can be supported in achieving a fulfilling, happy, lifestyle which reflects their wishes. But more than that, every opportunity for service users to access the local community, and become actively involved in community life will be, will be explored. Ashley House is ideally situated to make good use of all the local amenities, as well as more rural-based activities. The home is readily accessible by road and public transport. Options for social, recreational, and vocational opportunities are plentiful within very easy reach.
Ashley House itself has been modified to a high standard, and consists of accommodation on 3 levels.
