Northamptonshire Youth Offending Service (NYOS) is a multi-agency partnership between Northamptonshire County Council, the Police, Probation, the NHS and the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT).
Our principal aim is to reduce offending and re-offending by children and young people.
NYOS works directly with:
•children and young people (10 to 17) who have committed offences;
•their parents or carers; and
•the victims of their offences
Work is undertaken at all points of the formal system: from Out-of-Court outcomes through to Court Orders, both in the community and with young people in custody. NYOS provides robust assessment and intervention with children and young people who offend, taking account of the views of victims and involving them wherever possible.
Although our main aim is to prevent offending, restorative justice is at the heart of what we do and we want to help put things right wherever we can.
Some of the paid staff are directly employed by the county council to work in NYOS; others are seconded by their own agency to work within the service.
•restorative justice workers
•community psychiatric nurses
•substance misuse workers
NYOS also recruits, trains and supports a group of adult volunteers from a range of different backgrounds.
