What do I pay?
The fees quoted in the brochure include the tuition fee and a registration fee of £5. In some cases, there may be additional charges for materials.
Registrations with accredited bodies are not always included. Examination fees may be chargeable at a later date if required.
Free courses for Job Seekers Allowance and Employment Support Allowance claimants
A small selection of our courses are free for people in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
These courses are marked within our
brochure with an "F" in the "Remitted / Free" column of each page. Free places cannot be booked online. To claim a free place on qualifying courses please call 0300 126 1000 and speak to an advisor.
Please note this is restricted to one free place per person, per term.
You are entitled to a reduction in your course fee if you receive any of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance
- Incapacity Benefit
- Guaranteed Pension Credits
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)/ Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Carers Allowance
Adult learning will continue to accept the benefits listed below until Universal Credit is rolled out across the country:
Working Tax Credit / Child Tax Credit / Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit / Income Support / Income-based
Jobseeker’s Allowance / Income-based Employment and Support Allowance.
To claim a remitted fee you must provide evidence that you are in receipt of the benefit. This is limited to one course per term. Subsequent enrolments within one term will need to be paid at full fee.
If you have a discount code you will need to call 0300 126 1000 to enrol, so that your discount can be applied.
If you enrol on a course after the course start date you will be charged the full course fee.
If you withdraw from a course, please email
email@example.com at least 14 working days before the course is due to start. You will be eligible for a refund of 50% of your course fee minus the £5 registration charge.
If the course is cancelled by the Adult Learning Service before the course start date, a full refund will be given including the registration fee.
If the course is cancelled before the planned end date, a partial refund will be given. This will not include the £5 registration fee.
Places can only be confirmed on a course once the enrolment process is complete and payment has been received.
Have you found a course in our brochure that you like, but there are financial barriers preventing you from enrolling? We may be able to contribute towards the cost of your course through a bursary grant.
Please note: This grant is only available to Northamptonshire County Council adult learning courses featured in the brochure.
Who is the bursary grant for?
These grants are available to all learners who have additional special circumstances or are experiencing temporary financial hardship. Examples of such circumstances may be: you have caring responsibilities, have recently been bereaved or your doctor has advised you to participate on health grounds.
This is not an exhaustive list and each case is considered on its merits. The level of the bursary awarded will vary from person to person.
How much is the bursary grant?
For courses starting September 2013 onwards, maximum support for fees or other expenses is 50%. A learner is entitled to one bursary grant on one course per term. These grants are discretionary and are subject to the availability of bursary funds.

Bad weather cancellations
In the event of very bad weather, e.g. heavy continuous snow, classes may be cancelled.
- inform the local radio
- place notices on our website if in office hours
- attempt to inform all learners by phone or email where possible.
Replacement classes will be arranged if it is viable. Please refer to your Learner Welcome Pack for more details regarding bad weather refunds.
